People often arrive at an acupuncture office for issues such as back pain, headaches, or fertility challenges. These are all things that acupuncture is great at treating.
Many people don’t realize that acupuncture can also be extremely helpful for digestive issues such as constipation. I commonly treat constipation in people of all ages, from infants and children to pregnant women and adults of all ages.
I have had people come in to see me for acupuncture and mention that they don’t have bowel movements daily or even for several days at a time. Even when this isn’t what someone originally comes in to see me for, I can usually help get their bowels moving while also working to help them with their main complaint. I recently had someone come in to see me who hadn’t had a bowel movement in a couple of weeks, and told me that immediately after the treatment she was able to have a bowel movement, and of course felt much better afterwards.
Often I use points on the Large Intestine or Stomach channel for constipation, but there are various acupuncture channels that can be affected by digestive issues, and there is not just one way to treat constipation. There is even a point on the ‘San Jiao’ or ‘Triple Burner’ channel, ‘San Jiao 6,’ that is an ‘empirical point for constipation,’ as it is so well known for its effectiveness in treating constipation.
Whether you are not pooping enough, or going too much, acupuncture may be able to help you and your intestines to find balance and feel better! I would love to help you with this!
